About

'As I Please' is the official blog of The Orwell Foundation, an independent charity based at University College London which exists to perpetuate the achievements of the British writer George Orwell (1903-1950). It takes its name and ethos from the series of columns which George Orwell wrote for the magazine 'Tribune' between 1943 and 1947, on subjects ranging from ordinary life in wartime London, to the urgent themes which drove his great novels, Animal Farm (1945) and Nineteen Eighty-Four (1950).

A project in progress, 'As I Please' will be a home for new writing around and about our core programmes, from The Orwell Youth Prize educational programme for young writers, to the prestigious Orwell Prizes for political writing, to our growing programmes events and resources about George Orwell's own life and work.
