About

'As I Please' is the official blog of The Orwell Foundation, an independent charity based at University College London which exists to perpetuate the achievements of the British writer George Orwell (1903-1950). A project in progress, the blog will be a home for new writing, interviews and features inspired by the Foundation's programmes, featuring young writers from The Orwell Youth Prize, reflections from Orwell Prize judges and nominees, and special features about George Orwell's life and work.

'As I Please' takes its name from the column which Orwell wrote for the magazine 'Tribune' between 1943 and 1947. In 'As I Please', Orwell ranged freely from observations of life in wartime London to reflections on the urgent moral and political themes which drove his great novels, while the frank style, variety of subject matter and sharp insight Orwell demonstrated there still inspires writers and journalists today.
